A cybercriminal group says they have deleted vaccination data from millions of Brazilians.

A message left by the supposed Brazilians crackers.

On the morning of December 10th, 2021, Brazilians have awakened with very bad news.

Cybercriminals were able to invade the Health Ministry site, and mess with Covid-19 vaccination data.

It is not confirmed if it is a ransomware attack or a simple DNS Spoofing.

However, in practical terms, several millions of Brazilians can not prove their vaccination anymore, at least from this major official data source.

This document— also known as the vaccination passport — is necessary for traveling, as well as for accessing some specific venues.

It seems the situation can bring political unfoldings. Even before announcing a plan for backup recovery, the Brazilian Federal Government has made the proof of vaccination more flexible.

This is a clear reaction, instead of a proper response. Shutting down vaccination passport obligation does not solve anything, but, at the end of the day, it is what the Federal Government wants from the beginning.

On the same day of the cyber event, users have reported a malicious email with a fake link to the vaccination documents. I bet thousands of anxious people have fallen into the trap.

Covid-19 has accelerated digitalization in many ways. But living in a more digital world has its price.

Cybersecurity must be better demystified and better understood by everyone.
